A Message on the Use of Family Devotions During Closure
March 21, 2020
Dear Members of Risen Christ Lutheran Church,
Greetings in the name of the Holy Father, Holy Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen!
Please find attached a PDF file with a Sunday Family Devotions liturgy for tomorrow (links above). Also, there are audio recordings of me reading the sermon as well as the four hymns for this Sunday and a devotional music selection all recorded by Molly.
The idea is for you to print off the PDF document and use it for a family devotion on Sundays since we cannot be at church. If you have a Lutheran Service Book hymnal (next week The Lutheran Hymnal), you are encouraged to sing along with Molly’s recordings at the appropriate place in the devotion. You can either just read the sermon or you may listen to my recording of it. We will plan to do this or something similar to it until we begin having services again. A new PDF and recordings will be sent to you each week.
There are other resources on the internet that you can find from other churches, and I’ll leave that to your discretion. There are daily chapel videos that are available on the web site of Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne at www.ctsfw.edu that I recommend. The Lutheran hour can be heard on 850KOA at 6:00 AM on Sunday mornings or online at www.lutheranhour.org. For Lutheran talk shows, I suggest www.issuesetc.org by Lutheran Public Radio. For financial advice from a Christian perspective, I trust no one more than Dave Ramsey at www.daveramsey.com and he can also be heard on 760 AM or 93.7 FM from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Friday or on podcasts.
My thought is that we will wait to see the virus significantly subsiding before we think about meeting together at all. The governor’s order is for a full 30 days, so we will have to see what happens after that. If some time before that it looks like the virus is declining, we can think about having church in small groups of 10 or less. At some point I might consider bringing Holy Communion to people’s homes, but even that is risky until things start to turn around. For now, we’ll do it this way and constantly reevaluate the situation with the hope of starting to meet together again soon.
As always, if anyone needs anything please email, call my cell phone, or text me. Fear not. Trust in Christ. We will get through this.
God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit bless you and give you peace. Amen!
All my love in Christ,
Pastor Macina
